Why Fund the Frontline?

At Chicago Volunteer Doulas (CVD), we know that compassionate birth and reproductive care saves lives. Our Doulas are on the frontlines, ensuring families receive the vital support they need — but they can’t continue this work without sustainable pay.
Here are the facts:
CVDoulas are PAID Doulas. We proudly pay our Doulas for labor support, postpartum support, and backup services — and we pay more than the state of Illinois for these services.
Our Doulas are trained professionals, having completed our free 9-week certification training program, which includes Labor, Postpartum, and Lactation support training through DONA International.
Our Doulas are dedicated to reducing birth disparities in Chicago and Central Illinois, where families face some of the most alarming reproductive health challenges in the country.
Our Doulas show up when families need them most — offering comfort, advocacy, and care at every step. By funding the frontline, you’re ensuring they can keep doing this life-saving work.
Why Your Support Matters
Many of our Doulas are balancing full-time jobs alongside their doula work, making it harder for them to remain in this essential field. Without fair pay, we risk losing these trained, dedicated professionals — and families lose access to the care they desperately need.
When you donate to Fund the Frontline, you help:
Keep our Doulas paid — ensuring they can continue supporting families without financial strain.
Provide families with culturally competent, compassionate care.
Close the gap in Illinois' birth and reproductive health disparities.
